Earth Life Science

 a. Geologic and hydrometeorological hazards in a school community can include earthquakes, floods, landslides, tornadoes, hurricanes, and more. Identifying these risks is crucial for safety planning.

b. A preparedness level of 1-5=4 suggests that the community is moderately prepared, but there's still room for improvement in terms of readiness for potential hazards.

c. Teachers are essential in educating and raising awareness about these hazards. They can conduct drills, teach safety measures, and ensure that students understand how to respond effectively during emergencies, contributing to the community's overall preparedness.

 "Bituin ng Agham: Salamat, Guro"

Sa bawat araw ng paglalakbay sa buhay,

Guro'y tanglaw, gabay sa 'king landas,

Sa simula ng pag-aaral sa silid-aralan,

Hanggang hayskul, pag-usbong ng talasalitaan.

Unang pagtahak sa paaralan,

ikaw ang ilaw,

Sa pagtuturo't pagmamahal,

pasasalamat kailanman,

iyo akong itinutok.

Sa mataas na paaralan,

patuloy mong binubuksan ang pinto,

Sa mas malalim na kaalaman,

pangarap, at giting,

Tinuro mo ang halaga ng determinasyon

at tiyaga,

"The Multifaceted Role of Teachers in Hazard Preparedness and Student Support"

In our recent community survey, we delved into the profound ways in which teachers navigate the complexities of hazard preparedness while simultaneously offering unwavering support to students contending with economic and psychological challenges within these circumstances. Much like adept managers, teachers assume a variety of roles to establish a secure and nurturing learning environment when hazards are a concern.

Teachers serve as motivators in the lives of their students. They provide not only academic guidance but also emotional support and encouragement. This is particularly crucial in the face of economic and psychological hurdles that often accompany hazardous situations. Teachers offer assurance and motivation, helping students confront these challenges and giving them the belief that they can overcome adversity. By doing so, they contribute significantly to the resilience and mental well-being of their students. The role of teachers as organizers extends beyond the conventional boundaries of education. In times of hazards, they excel at structuring their lessons to encompass hazard preparedness. They ensure that students are not only well-informed about potential risks but also well-prepared to handle unforeseen circumstances. This proactive approach aids in creating a sense of security within the learning environment, as students know that their teachers are looking out for their safety and well-being. Teachers are not only educators but also leaders in their students' lives. They serve as role models, instilling essential values such as resilience, unity, and community spirit. These values extend beyond the classroom and prepare students to face the challenges posed by hazards. Teachers play a vital role in fostering a sense of togetherness and responsibility among their students, empowering them to act collectively in times of crisis. One of the most remarkable aspects of a teacher's role is their ability to adapt and cater to the distinctive needs of each student, particularly during and after a hazard. Teachers act as effective resource managers, tailoring their teaching techniques to ensure that no student is left behind. This individualized approach acknowledges the diversity of student experiences and abilities and ensures that every student has access to the necessary support and resources.  In addition to their academic roles, teachers often find themselves taking on the role of a counselor. They lend an empathetic ear and provide emotional guidance to students grappling with the psychological impact of hazardous situations. The emotional support and understanding offered by teachers can be a crucial factor in a student's ability to cope with the stress and anxiety associated with such circumstances.

In conclusion, teachers play a pivotal and multifaceted role in hazard preparedness and student support. They transcend the traditional boundaries of education to create an environment of security and reassurance for their students. By assuming roles as motivators, organizers, leaders, resource managers, and counselors, teachers equip students with the skills and emotional fortitude needed to face challenges with unwavering confidence and determination. In doing so, they not only prepare students for the academic rigors of the world but also for the challenges life may throw their way, ensuring they emerge as resilient and empowered individuals.

Budget/Salary: ₱29,000/month

Categories:

Rent/Mortage- 20% (₱5,800)

Groceries- 13% (₱3,770)

Transportation(gas)- 5% (₱1,450)

Utilities(electricity,water,internet, etc.)- 22% (₱6,380)

Savings- 15% (₱4,350)

Entertainment/Leisure- 15% (₱4,350)

Miscellaneous(other expenses)- 10% (₱2,900)

Total: 100% (₱ 29,000)

We allocate our budget as follows: 20% for rent or mortgage, as the typical payment for housing ranges from 3,000 to 5,000 pesos. We assign 13% for groceries because prices, especially for food, have risen considerably. We spend about 5% on transportation monthly, as we only need to refuel once to thrice a month, and the cost for round-trip travel ranges from 20 to 50 pesos, depending on the location. Utilities are our most significant expense, with electricity being the most costly. We save 15% of our salary for emergencies and another 15% for entertainment and leisure, as it's difficult to predict entertainment expenses. Finally, we allocate 10% for miscellaneous expenses, as we also need to spend on ourselves and our loved ones to alleviate fatigue.

"SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL ENROLLMENT FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS"

Hypothesis:

Based on data indicating a pattern of increasing to decreasing enrollment during the previous five years, showing that more students initially enrolled in the school before the enrolment somewhat decreased, we can see and forecast that there is a possibility that this trend will somewhat increase again in the future.

The initial decrease in enrollment might have been shaped by the teachers' role, affecting students' perceptions of education quality and their overall experience. Additionally, the ongoing decrease in senior high school enrollment may be attributed to a combination of factors, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students' educational decisions, the school's reputation, and socioeconomic conditions, all of which could discourage students from enrolling or continuing their education in this setting. Furthermore, the accessibility of educational resources on the internet might also contribute to the decrease in enrollment, as students may perceive less need for traditional classroom-based learning.

However, with concerted efforts to enhance the appeal of senior high school education through the role of teachers and other measures, there is hope that this trend can be reversed, and enrollment may increase in the future.

Reflection:

The enrollment data over the past six years shows a concerning trend in senior high school attendance. There has been a steady decline, notably from 2018-2019 to 2022-2023, where the number of enrolled students dropped from 3347 to 2690. This decline might be partly attributed to the potential future mandate of senior high school attendance.

Making senior high school mandatory carries significant implications. While it seeks to improve the overall educational landscape, it underscores the need to address factors affecting this decrease in enrollment. Teachers hold a crucial role in shaping these enrollment figures, extending beyond their traditional teaching responsibilities. They are tasked with making senior high school an appealing and rewarding option for students. This involves creating an engaging learning environment, inspiring students, and adapting to the evolving educational landscape.

Looking ahead, teachers will play a vital role in reversing this declining trend. They have the potential to enhance the quality of education and the overall student experience, making senior high school a place where students not only meet mandatory requirements but also thrive in their learning journeys. Recognizing the multifaceted impact of teachers on enrollment figures and emphasizing their role in making senior high school education more appealing are essential steps in addressing the declining trend and ensuring a brighter future for these institutions. It is anticipated that, with these efforts, enrollment will likely increase in the future.
